The Home Pros Spotlight — We Want to Interview You

We are interviewing Colorado Springs home service owners and publishing the conversations. Free, no ad purchase, and the feature stays up either way.

Here is something we noticed running a direct mail card for local home service businesses: the best contractors in this city are frequently the worst at telling anyone they exist.

They are booked through referrals, they do genuinely excellent work, and their entire public presence is a Facebook page updated in 2019. Meanwhile the loudest company in the category — often the one with the biggest ad budget and the least local history — is the one homeowners find first.

We would like to do something about that.

What the Spotlight is

We are interviewing Colorado Springs home service owners and publishing the conversations on this blog. Twenty minutes on the phone or on video, in your own words.

What you get:

  • A published feature page with your name, your photos and a link to your site
  • Clips and quote graphics you can post on your own social channels
  • A permanent page that keeps working long after any ad campaign ends

What it costs: nothing. There is no ad purchase attached, no obligation, and no pitch at the end. Plenty of people will get featured and never buy a slot on the card. The feature stays published regardless.

Why we are doing it

Two honest reasons.

The first is that it makes this blog worth reading. Anyone can write a general article about hail damage. What makes local content genuinely useful is a roofer who has been working El Paso County for twenty years explaining what they actually see, and why the advice on the internet does not quite fit here.

The second is that it is how we meet good operators. We sell advertising on a shared mailer, one business per trade. We would rather fill those categories with people whose work we know something about than with whoever calls first. If an interview eventually turns into an advertiser, good. If it does not, we still have a better article than we would have written alone.

We would rather tell you that plainly than pretend there is no commercial interest at all.

What we ask

No script, no gotchas. Roughly:

  • How did you end up in this trade, and in Colorado Springs?
  • What should a homeowner ask before they hire someone like you?
  • What is different about doing this work at 6,000 feet — hail, wind, clay soil, freeze-thaw?
  • What is the job you are proudest of, and the one that taught you the most?
  • What do homeowners consistently get wrong about your trade?
  • Which other local pros do you send your own customers to?

That last question is our favourite. The answers are usually the best lead we get on who else to talk to.

Who we are looking for

Any home service business operating in Colorado Springs and the surrounding area — Monument, Falcon, Fountain, Peyton, Manitou, Woodland Park. Roofers, plumbers, HVAC, electricians, foundation, landscaping, tree care, remodelling, cleaning, well and septic, and every trade in between.

Owner-operators especially. If you are two trucks and a good reputation, you are exactly who we want to talk to, and you are the least likely to have a marketing budget that gets you found.

How to get on the list

Use the Spotlight form on the home page. Name, business, trade, and the best time to talk. We will come to you.

One more thing, since people ask: you can review your quotes before anything is published. We are not looking for a gotcha. We are looking for the twenty minutes of hard-won local knowledge you have never had a reason to write down.
